The list of dangerous hand sanitizer has grown over 88 times. The FDA list of harmful hand sanitizers started with a batch of nine alcohol-based cleaning products. Amid a continuing search by the FDA for sanitizers that contain toxic substances its recall list has flexed to 75 products. “Substantial methanol exposure can result in nausea, vomiting, headache, blurred vision, permanent blindness, seizures, coma, permanent damage to the nervous system or death,” the FDA report indicated. The agency said the risk of possible ingestion centered mostly on young children or adolescents who might use alcohol-based sanitizers as a substitute for grain alcohol.
